Compared to conventional wooden plywood formwork, it offers significantly superior performance and is being recognized as a model case of eco-friendly construction material development.

POSCO Engineering & Construction conducted a pilot application of the formwork at Section 11 of the West Inland Expressway project, where its excellent performance was verified. Because it is lighter than wooden plywood formwork, it improves work safety during installation and transportation.

In addition, its durability is more than twice as high, and it generates far less noise during dismantling, helping to reduce complaints from nearby communities. By utilizing waste plastics and steelmaking slag, the manufacturing cost is approximately 8% lower.

Notably, the smooth surface allows the formwork to be easily separated from concrete, eliminating the need for release agents, which can cause soil contamination. While wooden plywood formwork contributes to deforestation during production and must be discarded when damaged—raising further environmental concerns—this new formwork can be melted down and recycled again even if damaged, offering a clear environmental advantage.

▶ View All

Developed in collaboration with POSCO’s in-house venture EOMTech, this formwork is manufactured in panel form by fusing melted waste plastics with powdered steelmaking byproduct slag.
