By the first half of this year, POSCO E&C, which holds 605 registered patents in Korea, has achieved yet another technological breakthrough—this time in eco-friendly materials. This development lays the groundwork for replacing construction materials, which are indispensable to the construction business, with environmentally friendly alternatives in line with the changing times.
POSCO E&C also succeeded in developing eco-friendly materials last year, demonstrating that it is putting ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management into practice, not just paying lip service.
◆ Eco-Friendly Landscaping Soil Conditioner to Be Applied On-Site Soon
POSCO E&C (formerly POSCO Engineering & Construction), in collaboration with Samwha Greentech Co., Ltd., has successfully developed “RE:CO Soil,” an eco-friendly landscaping soil conditioner made from coffee grounds—the first such achievement in the construction industry.
Coffee grounds, commonly referred to as spent coffee residue, account for 99.8% of coffee beans after brewing. Typically, these grounds are either landfilled or incinerated, processes that generate carbon emissions. As a result, there has been growing interest across various industries in recycling coffee grounds as part of broader efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
